- Zhou Brothers: Skulpturen / Sculptures

I love sculptures. For thousands of years three-dimensional objects formed the solid core of all art: cast in bronze, gold or iron, chiseled in stone or carved in wood, these works which could survive the passing of many epochs. And because luck, chance and my interest in tracking down clues in art brought me together with Zhuo Shan Zuo and Zhuo Da Huang, I soon felt the desire to perceive their paintings, drawings and woodcuts not only with my mind but with my hands as well. I wanted those figures to break out of their frame and stand triumphant in space as sculptures. For they are strong, and the strength of the Chinese brothers flows from a deep source. Tradition - a word worn thin by indiscriminate use - is the unmistakeable force which binds their work to the long history of their people's art.
